The Importance of Social Interaction for Your Toddler

01 Sep 2014

At Cuddles Childcare Centres, children in the Perth area are given all of the tools to be lightyears ahead of their peers in the area of socialisation by the time they reach primary school. Social interaction is an important skill that becomes more important as a child progresses through school.
Importance of Social Interaction for Your Toddler

In adulthood, those with the best social skills generally end up with the best careers. It is no accident that the word “networking” has become so ubiquitous in today’s society. While the concept is valid, it is really just a word for having great social skills and using them. We agree with the prevalent industry opinion that social skills and success habits are best learned as early as possible. That is one of the reasons why we try to set every child up with numerous opportunities to interact and cooperate with other children on a daily basis.

Somewhere between the age of 26 months and 30 months, the child begins to develop empathy or being able to relate to another person’s point of view. Up to then, a child is very self-centered and only knows what they want with no consideration to what others may want or need.

When the child begins to relate to even one other child, it is a milestone. They begin learning how to socialise. This allows them to learn such concepts as sharing or waiting for their turn. They might even begin to learn manners, especially if they are taught by example in the home.

By 31 months to 36 months of age, your child should begin to learn how to socialise in groups. They are learning to develop relationships and to get along with others. These skills are extremely important.

At Cuddles, we provide children with settings in which they can play in small and large groups. Each child is valued as an equal; each is given all of the attention they need from carers, but not in an intrusive manner.
